‘Tis the season for wondering what the hell to buy a vegan – Christmas gift guide 2016

Brad and I aren’t big on Christmas shopping. I know, you wouldn’t think that from a girl who plays Dean Martin Christmas carols on repeat each year.

Last year we made our way to the shops the week before Christmas, early in the morning to avoid the crowds (fail). We split up with the same budget and the aim of buying something we would each really love. After ten minutes we ran into each other (literally) in the exact same bookstore. Though the idea was a glorious fail, the whole situation made for lots of laughs.

This time of year is about good vibes and family funtimes, but if you’re stumped for what to get the Vegan in your life, here’s some ideas to make things a little easier.

The BEST vegan gifts…

  1. Take them up on that offer to try their vegan cooking, or better yet watch that documentary they’ve been begging you to watch. This would have to be the best gift you could give a vegan, and the bonus is it’s free!
  2. Donate to their favorite charity in their name. If the holiday season is the time for giving, make the gift count. Two of my favorite organisations are Sea Shepherd (a non-profit conservation organisation whose mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans) and Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary (a not for profit sanctuary for rescued farmed animals).
  3. Thoughtful gifts. There’s nothing more awkward for a vegan than being given a gift that includes animal products (like a leather wallet or milk chocolate). We know it’s the thought that counts, but sparing a thought for the ethics of veganism will go a long way. To be safe, look for items that do not contain animal or animal derived products (such as leather, wool, silk, dairy, beeswax, honey etc).

Following is a handful of items that have made my #hellyeah list that the vegan in your life will be sure to love.

Cookbooks

I’d go as far as to say that everybody loves a good cookbook. You’ll be able to find an array of vegan cookbooks at all good bookstores, keep an eye out for this beauty while you’re at it. I don’t own it yet but It’s on my grabby-hands list.
